During the Baroque period, art was not only an aesthetic expression, but also a powerful means of communication and persuasion. In order to reaffirm the principles of the Counter-Reformation, Baroque art often used dramatic visual elements and ornate details to engage the senses and emotions of the faithful, seeking to inspire faith and devotion. In the historical context of the Early Modern Age, Baroque art was not limited to European borders, finding fertile ground in the American colonies where it merged with local traditions, resulting in a unique expression that reflected the complex intersection between European culture and native cultures. Considering the role of art as a communication tool in different cultural contexts and the characteristics of Baroque art that made it effective in promoting religious values, analyze a snippet of a Baroque artwork and identify two visual elements that are emblematic of the Baroque style and discuss how these elements could be interpreted in the light of the historical and religious context in which they were created, also considering the process of transculturation that occurred in the Americas.
