Air Composition

Medium

(Originais Teachy 2024) - Question Medium of Sciences

Imagine you are participating in an air purification experiment, where it is essential to understand the composition of different gases present in the atmosphere for the project's success. The air around us is a mixture of various gases, with the majority being nitrogen (N2), followed by oxygen (O2), and a small amount of carbon dioxide (CO2). When conducting a purification experiment, it is important to know not only the percentage composition of these gases but also how they interact and what happens if we alter this composition. Based on your knowledge, answer the following questions: 1) What are the approximate percentages of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide in the standard atmosphere and what is the function of each of these gases for biological and environmental processes? 2) Considering that carbon dioxide is an atmospheric pollutant that contributes to global warming, what would be the effect on the purification experiment if we increased the percentage of this gas in the purified mixture?
