Polygons: Introduction

Hard

(Originais Teachy 2024) - Question Hard of Mathematics

During a practical math class, 7th grade students observed the formation of regular polygons with stretched strings. The challenge proposed by the teacher was to determine the number of sides of a polygon based on its linear measurements. The teacher explained that to measure the perimeter of the polygon, the string should be stretched around all consecutive vertices of the polygon, and then the string measurement used to find the measurement of each side. Later, the concept of circumscribed circle was introduced, which is the smallest circle in which all the vertices of the polygon touch, considering it as the 'line' that delimits the polygon. Based on this knowledge, and knowing that the radius of the circumscribed circle to a regular polygon with 10 sides measures 30 centimeters, propose an algorithm that, receiving the radius of the circumscribed circle as input, determines the perimeter of the polygon and then calculates the measurement of each of its sides. The algorithm should be written in pseudocode, detailing step by step the necessary mathematical operations to find the perimeter and the length of a side of the polygon.
a.
The perimeter of the polygon is: 188.9822365046136 cm
b.
The perimeter of the polygon is: 377.964473009227 cm
c.
The perimeter of the polygon is: 150 cm
d.
The perimeter of the polygon is: 60 cm
e.
The perimeter of the polygon is: 94.4911182523068 cm

In a school, a survey was conducted on students who practiced sports. It was found that 60% of the students practiced soccer, 30% practiced volleyball, and 20% practiced both sports. If a student is randomly selected, what is the probability that he practices soccer, given that he practices volleyball?

In a science project, students need to measure different volumes of liquids for their experiments. The scale used to measure the volume of water can only measure in multiples of 100 milliliters. When measuring, the scale shows 450.725 grams of water. We know that the density of water is 1 g/ml. (1) Round the volume measured by the scale to the nearest milliliter. (2) Explain why the scale provided a number in grams instead of milliliters and how you used the density of water to convert the measurement back to volume in milliliters.

The Science class is learning about vegetable gardens and decided to plant a small rectangular garden at school, where they will grow lettuce and carrots. The garden's rectangle measures 3 meters in length and 2 meters in width. To find out how many plants will fit in the garden, they need to calculate the perimeter. Help the students calculate the perimeter of this rectangular garden.
