In the context of technological advances and their impact on daily life, robotics and artificial intelligence have transformed various areas of human knowledge. One of the most significant contributions is the creation of automatic systems capable of performing complex tasks that were traditionally exclusive to human intellect and skill. This raises ethical and philosophical questions about autonomy and decision-making by machines, a reflection that intertwines with literature and history. In this sense, the poem 'El Autómata' by Gerardo Diego, where the poet reflects on the essence of autonomy and freedom, using metaphors and analogies related to automatons, invites us to consider the nature of our own decisions and the potential use of artificial intelligence in our lives. In a fragment of the poem, the author says: 'If I had known... I would have written... a different story'. Based on the reading of the poem and taking into account the grammatical structure of verbs in Spanish, particularly the conditional perfect, formulate an interpretation of how the use of this verbal form contributes to the expression of the poet's regret and how this construction could be applied to discuss the ethical implications of decisions made by autonomous systems in our society.
