Geometric Optics: Snell's Law

Medium

(Originais Teachy 2023) - Question Medium of Physics

An oceanographer is studying the speed of light in different layers of water in the ocean with varying concentrations of salt. He uses a laser to shoot a beam of light at an angle of 35 degrees in relation to the water surface, which in the first medium (water with lower salt concentration) has a refractive index of 1.33. When the light enters the second layer (water with higher salt concentration), the light beam undergoes refraction and the angle of incidence is modified. Consider that the speed of light in a vacuum is 3*10^8 m/s. 1) Determine the angle of refraction of light in the second medium, knowing that the refractive index of this layer of water is 1.40. 2) Calculate the speed of light propagation in the second layer, using the result obtained in the previous item. 3) Find the deviation suffered by the light beam when passing from one medium to the other.
