In an optics laboratory, a beam of light strikes perpendicularly on a flat mirror and generates a reflection that hits another object, located at a distance of 2 meters from the mirror. A student, while analyzing the phenomenon, observes that the image formed in the mirror is at the same distance from the object in relation to the mirror. Considering the situation described and the properties of reflection in a flat mirror, answer the following items: 1) Explain why the image observed by the student is at a distance equal to that of the object in relation to the mirror, and not at a shorter distance, as could occur in other types of mirrors. 2) If the mirror were moved to a new position, so that the distance from the object to the mirror was reduced to 1 meter, describe how the position and characteristics of the image formed in the mirror would be affected.
