A Physics student decided to assemble a small electromagnet using a coil made of enameled copper wire and an iron core. He wound the coil with 500 turns and connected it to a 4 A direct current source. Knowing that the solenoid's length is 20 cm and using the vacuum permeability constant (μ0 = 4π × 10^-7 T.m/A), do the following: (a) calculate the magnetic field inside the coil, (b) determine the average magnetic field at the end of the coil, and (c) explain how the iron core affects the magnetic field generated by the coil.
