The interaction between players is necessary to outplay the opposing defense and to create scoring opportunities. Handball rules, such as the three-step limit with the ball and the prohibition of excessive physical contact, encourage movement and passing, aspects that favor collaboration and strategy. The history of handball shows a significant evolution regarding inclusion and diversity. Initially a predominantly male sport, wheelchair handball was introduced at the Summer Paralympic Games in 1976, paving the way for greater participation of athletes with disabilities. Beach handball also gained prominence, attracting players from different backgrounds and genders. An example of a championship that highlights this evolution is the Beach Handball World Championship, which started in 2004 and has since promoted diversity and inclusion, offering opportunities for athletes from all over the world and with different abilities. These initiatives reflect the growing importance given to accessibility and gender equality in sports, characteristics that define modern handball practice and make it an example of how a sport can evolve to be more inclusive and diverse.
