The independence of the Thirteen English Colonies in North America was a complex process that culminated in the creation of a new country, the United States of America. During this transition, various political, economic, and social factors contributed to tensions between the colonists and the British metropolis. Based on this contextualization, 1) explain how the political and economic system of the British Empire affected the relationship with its North American colonies; 2) describe the role of Enlightenment ideas in the colonists' struggle for independence; and 3) analyze how the independence of English America impacted political and social decisions in other colonized territories around the world.
