Baroque art, which emerged in Europe in the early 17th century, is characterized by its dynamism, theatricality, and contrast, reflecting the social and religious tensions of the time and becoming an important tool for propagandistic Catholicism. The expressiveness and ornamental richness, combined with a complex symbology, allow Baroque works to communicate diverse messages, ranging from the glorification of God to the representation of human fragility in the face of the divine. During this period, Baroque art was not limited to Europe, having spread to the territories conquered by colonizers, as evidenced in the architecture, sculpture, and painting of Latin American churches from that period. Considering the interdisciplinarity between Art and History and the context of cultural globalization, analyze the phenomenon of the expansion of European Baroque to America. Discuss how the adaptation of Baroque techniques and styles in Latin American colonial art was not limited to a mere copy of the European model, reflecting the cultural specificities and fusion with indigenous and African traditions present in the context of colonial America.
