Media and Communication

Contextualization

Hello, class! Let's embark on a journey through the fascinating world of 'Communication Media'. But what are these media? Well, they are the tools we use to transmit information from one place to another. Many of them are well known to us, such as television, radio, telephone, newspaper, magazine, computer, and of course, the internet!

Now, you may wonder, why is it important to learn about this? Well, the answer is simple! Communication media have played a crucial role in shaping the world we live in today. They influence our lives, ways of interacting, and even how we learn.

Introduction

Since ancient times, humans have sought ways to communicate with each other. In the past, people used drums, horse messengers, smoke signals, and even carrier pigeons to send messages. Time passed, and with it came technological advances that revolutionized the way we communicate.

Did you know that the world's first newspaper was printed in Germany in 1605? And that the telephone, which is so common today, was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876? And the internet, which revolutionized the way we communicate, was created in 1969 in the United States?

What Will We Learn?

In this project, we will explore the different types of communication media, their history, and evolution over time. We will discover how they work, how they have changed over the years, and how they affect our lives. We will also learn about the importance of communication for society and how it can be used to educate, inform, and entertain.

Through this study, you will develop research skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and of course, communication skills. And best of all, we will have a lot of fun learning together!

So, are you ready for this incredible journey through the universe of communication? Let's go!

Practical Activity

Activity Title: 'The Timeline of Communication Media'

Project Objective:

Create an interactive and creative timeline that presents the evolution of communication media throughout history. Students will research, collect information, and images about different communication media, and with this, they will create a timeline that represents the changes and evolution of these media.

Detailed Project Description:

Each group of students should create a cardboard timeline, where events are represented by images and/or words. In addition, each group will present their timeline to the class, explaining the importance of each communication medium and how it has changed over time.

Required Materials:

  • Large cardboard sheet
  • Colored pens
  • Magazines (for cutouts)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper and pencil (for notes and planning)

Step by Step:

  1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 participants.

  2. Research and Information Collection: Each group will be tasked with researching different communication media (examples: newspaper, telephone, television, internet) and collecting information about the history and evolution of each. They can use textbooks, encyclopedias, reliable websites, and also the teacher's help.

  3. Timeline Planning: Students, in their groups, should plan how they will present the collected information in the form of a timeline. They can decide the order of the communication media and how they will represent each one (for example, with an image, with words, or with both).

  4. Timeline Creation: Using the provided materials, the groups should start creating the timeline. They can use the cardboard sheet to draw the timeline and the pens to write the information. Images can be cut out from magazines and glued on the timeline.

  5. Presentation to the Class: Each group will present their timeline to the class. During the presentation, they should explain the importance of each communication medium, how it has changed over time, and how it affects our lives today.

Remember, creativity is very welcome! You can add details and decorations to your timeline to make it even more interesting. And most importantly: have fun learning!

Delivery Format:

Each group must deliver their physical timeline and give an oral presentation to the class. The presentation should last from 5 to 10 minutes, and all group members must participate.
